Word-of-Mouth
Women and Memoir: Expanding Frontiers-Pushing Boundaries
A 'retreat' and workshop for women writers/October 2008

"To enter a writing space with Mary Kay and Denise is to embark on a creative journey challenging heart, mind and soul - with pen in hand. Their leadership is stellar - from rigor in exercises to clarity in editing, engaging us all with gracious encouragement and infectious humor. What a gift!"
Shoonie Hartwig, Roseville, Minnesota

"In a prior class, Mary Kay helped me find my writer’s voice. In Women and Memoir she and Denise pushed me past self-imposed boundaries and expanded the options of what I could share. Mary Kay and Denise are a winning pair - skilled, insightful, nurturing and funny."
Carol Tershak, West Des Moines, Iowa

"The workshop created a place and a space for writing. The workshop had a "retreat" feeling: we stayed in a charming boutique hotel, ate well, looked at beauty out of every window ... and wrote, wrote, wrote. The workshop was designed to give us a physically comfortable and almost luxurious environment ... so that we could push ourselves intellectually and emotionally. We did. A highlight was a voluntary reading on the last night. We decamped to a small lodge next to the Mississippi. As dark fell we read our works to each other in front of a blazing fire. The subjects of each person's memoir came alive; it capped an intense and effective four-day workshop."
Michelle J. Foster, Paeonian, VA

And for any of you who’ve been in one of my classes, I share this from A Memoir of My Spiritual Journey, a class I offer each winter at Plymouth Congregational Church.
"Since your class I see every event in my life in 175 words. It really puts a lot of things in the right size box."
Jim Saul, Des Moines

Dates will be set soon for the 2009 A Memoir of My Spiritual Journey at Plymouth Congregational Church. Check back soon, clicking on speaking, workshops for details.
