| | Mary Kay Shanley | |
| | On her way home from sixth grade one day, Mary Kay Shanley decided she’d be a writer. She began as a reporter for The Des Moines Register, immediately spending a day with the then-First Family, her baptism-by-fire assignment. Next came freelancing and authoring nine books, including She Taught Me to Eat Artichokes, a best-seller. At some point, she was invited to teach at a workshop and fell in love with the experience. An instructor with the prestigious University of Iowa’s Summer Writing Festival, she also offers smaller workshops. Mary Kay has a husband, three children, a granddaughter who just happens to be cute, and two Shelties who sleep under her desk all day long. | |
