| Coming Home: writing from the soul - a winter retreat for women |
| The recent four-day retreat offered by good friend and Servite Sister Joyce Rupp and me turned into an experience beyond our expectations. Spending Thursday evening through Sunday noon with 30 women—some of whom we knew, others not—turned into a gift. We shared, we reflected, we wrote, we discovered and we left as friends. Hopefully, we will be together again. It was that worthwhile. |
 |
| Recently, 30 women came together at a writing retreat. Each woman had an idea about what she expected to gain from the weekend. As the retreat began, the 30 women quickly learned that among the group were some "church ladies" and some "writers." The church ladies gasped and said, "Oh no. We’re with a bunch of writers," and the writers gasped and said, "Oh, no. We’re with a bunch of church ladies." Both groups began to question the reason for signing up. But as the hours passed, it became difficult to tell one group from the other. In the end, the writers felt more spiritual and the church ladies felt more like writers. By Jean Lewis, who now belongs in both groups |

Mary Kay [okay, me] and Joyce Rupp, co-facilitators, flank the best photographer at the retreat, Dr. Rhonda Hazell of New Jersey. She is, after all, the amazing woman who gathered everyone into one place at one time and had them stay still long enough for the group photo. |
